MISS WILLS BEATS MRS. GODFREE.

A huge crowd at Beckenham saw bliss Helen Wille beat Mrs. Godfree in the Kent Lawn Tennis Champion- ship Anal by 0-2, 0-4.

Mrs. Godfree made a no fight and offered an effective defence to Miss Will's drives from the extremities, of the court, The speed was terrific from the start, and Miss Wills play- ed the correct shot on overy' oden- sion despite the fact that she was maintaining a barrage of hard driv ing which tosted Mrs. Godfree's agility to the utmost.

Mrs. Godfrée volleyed most ne curately and little fault could bo found with her ground strokes, but sho was no match for her opponent In this respect in the opening set.

In the second set Mrs. Godfree kept Miss Willa on the defensive for some time and led by four games to two. Miss Wills then adopted hard- hitting tactics again from the base- line

A BRIBE.

JUNK MASTER FINED AT KOWLOON.

Charges of possession of 7% mace of non-Government opium and of offering a bribe of $10 to" Sergeant Hurly, were brought against the master of a junk be- fore Mr. W. Schofield at the Kow- loon Magistracy on Saturday morn ing..

The defendant pleaded guilty to both charges. He said that he gave the officer the money as "de- posit" for an offence for which he had been arrested sometime ago, when it was alleged that he had caused an obstruction in the har- Dour.

The defendant was fined $60 or one month's hard labour on the opium charge and a further $100 or two months imprisonment in addition on the bribery charge.
