SUMMONS WITHDRAWN.
SETTLEMENT BETWEEN YOUNG COUPLE.
"I am happy to tell your, Wor- ship that the parties have now come to a settlement and that your Worship will not be troubled with the hearing of the case. They have come to some mutual under-. standing and I ask your Worship for, leave to withdraw the aum- mons,"
Mr. Horace Lo addressed the above to request Major C. Willson yesterday afternoon when he ap peared on behalf of Mrs. Hallma Hyder, who had previously taken out a summons against her hus- band for maintenance. She had also made application to the Magistrate for the custody of the two children, as well as an order that she be no longer bound to co- habit with her husband.
Mr. B. A. Hyder was represent- ed by Mr. D. McCullum, who on being asked whether he had any objection to the case being" with- drawn, said: "There is a settic- ment in the air, but there is noth- ing definite. In any case I have no objection to the summons being withdrawn."
BISHOP OF LONDON.
ON HIS RECENT VISIT TO CHINA.
After a nine months' tour of
the world, during which he covered 18,000 miles and visited Japan, Korea, China, Malaya and the 'Dutch East Indies, the Bishop of London returned to London on May 7.
Interviewed, he said the most
he tremendous impression had brought back was that of Great Britain's extraordinary power all over the world. "It is absolutely stupendous," he said. "In the eyes of the world Great Britain stands for right business, commercial in- tegrity, fairness and justice. Bren in, China this is recognised. All the richest Chinese have been mov-. ing their wealth Into Hongkong for safely. They are not sending it to Moscow, but to the protection of the British flag." Discussing his visit to China the Blahop said that the extraordinary self-control of our marines in Shanghai and Hankow had been a lesson to the world. Our Government were perfectly right to show we meant to stand no non- sonsé. "I believe the treaties should be rewritten in a liberal spirit," he aald, "and I believe the Government was absolutely right In showing that while it was prepared to do that it would not be trifled with"
