HARBOUR MURDER.

SAMPAN MISTRESS DONE TO DEATH.

A young girl, the daughter of the, mistress of a harbour pas- senger bont, reported to the Police last evening that her mother had been murdered and the boat to which she belonged, plundered of all valuables, by three unknown persons during the morning of Sunday.

DISTINGUISHED VISITOR PASSING THROUGH.

Among the passengers on the Empress of Russia which arrived yesterday worg Major General C. C. Van Straubenzee and Mrs. Vau Straubenzee.

The Major General in the new General Omeer commanding a Malaya. He was born in 1867, and joined the Royal Artillery, in which he was Lieutenant in 1886, Captain in 1897, Major în 1902 and Lieutenant Colonel in 1914.

Major General Van Straubenzee served in the Ashanti campaign 1895-96. and then became a Pro- fessor in the Canadian Royal Military College from 1898 t 1903. He was Instructor in the School of Gunnery, 1909-1912. During the Great War he was mentioned in despatches four times and promoted to be Major General. He has the. C. M. G., and 'C. B. Since 1929 he has been G .O. C., 46th North Midland) Division T. A.
