A NANKING REMINISCENCE-It was in the famous Nanking University (above) that 55 United States nationals found safety from the attacks of pillaging Cantonese soldiers and wore later evacuated to men-of-war anchored off the waterfront. The Rev. John E. Williams, first American civilian casualty of the war in China, raported to have been "murdered in cold blood," was Vice-Chancellor of the University.

MINERS TRAPPED.-Ninetben miners were out, off from the outside world when the flood waters of a swollen grook at Spelter City, Oklahoma, caved in the roof of a mina. The ploture showa the hole caused by the cave-in, and rescuers, who had to pump and bail the water so a rolief party could enter. The miners were imprisoned for eight hours and narrowly missed drowning.
