Owing to the strong action taken by the British naval authorities at Wuhu in instructing all British steamers to resist any attempt at search on the part of a society newly-formed for that object, there has been no attempt to carry out the suggestion, although passengers are being searched on the Bund.

There is a lall in the fighting between North and South. reports from the Honan and Shantung fronts confirming earlier" messages that the troops are resting after the recent heavy battles. Marshal Chiang Kai-shek is making a tour of inspection of his armies, preparatory to 'a further offensive.
