MONGKOK ROBBERY.
COWARDLY ATTACK ON FRIEND'S WIFE.
The Criminal Sessions Wero continued yesterday afternoon, before the acting Pulsie Judge, Mr. P. Jacks, when & Chinese nam- od Chan Wan-fal appeared to an- swer a charge of robbery by two or more. Prisoner was charged
with stealing earrings, bangles, rings and $25 in money. Mr. T.S. Whyte Smith prosecuted for the Crown, and the prisoner pleaded "not guilty.".
MAл
In outlining the circumstances, Mr. Wayte Smith explained that the prisoner was in the habit of borrowing, money from a named Lai Chung, who lived on the third floor. at 241 Portland Street, Mongkok Tsui. On March 26th., at about nine o'clock in the evening, the prisoner was refused a loan by the man's wife, who told him he was good at borrowing money, but was not so eager to pay it back.
The woman's husband then came in, and approved of his wife's action, with the result that the prisoner left in a temper, and re- marked "I will remember this."
On the following day, at about noon, the woman, was alone in the house when she heard a knock: at the door and a voice asked for her husband.
She opened the door and three strangers entered, and pushed her into the kitchen. At the same time she saw the prisoner appear from behind the men, carrying, a pistol or a revolver, and he seized her by the threat. They gagged her with an orange and wire, and by means of another piece of wire' they hooked her up to a nail on the wall, leaving her in such a position that she was almost strangled, because her feet hard ly toached the floor.
After taking various articles from her, they helped themselves to The $80 from a wooden box. woman would tell the court that during the robbery the prisoner
prodded her with the revolver, and the other men kicked her.
