CLOSING CRUISE.
KEEN CONTESTS AT THE YACHT CLUB.
Fino weather and keenly con- osted races marked the closing ruise of the Royal Hongkong Yacht Club on Saturday: There vas a large attendance.
A full programme of conteste had con arranged, and a most interest- og and enjoyable afternoon was
rovided.
Perhaps the most signal succens the cruise, was the winning out. Ight of the Leveson Cup by a crow rom H.M.S. Titania, who crossed
he winning line first for the fourth uccessive year. Once they were din unlified.
Lady Clement was a competitor the salling races, having charge of a Linda, which aseared third place
the handicap cinss.
Intercet in the rowing races was hiefly centred on the Loveson Cup, br which four teams competed, B. 8., Vounteers, Hongkong Bank, ad H.M.S. Titania, the course being var one mile. A fairly good start as made, and almost immediately the itania began to take the lead, which hoy increased in a short space of me to a length, with the Volunteers nd B. & S. creas struggling for seand place, and the Bank lasing dis- nce rapidly. The Titania crew oro pulling with long swinging rokes, and seemed to have nu flculty in keeping in front,
The contest for second place con- hued at the quarter mark between Volunteers and B. & S., while the ank continued to drop further bo- d. By the time the half why line as reached, the Bank were out of running, and the Titania had still rther lightly increased their lead. After the half way line, interest. med to the Volunteer and B. & S. wa, the former having a slight lend ich they increased to about half a gth. In the last quarter B. & 25. urted gamaly and nearly drew level th the Volunteers, but they could not stain the effort and fell behind to ke third place. ;

Prize Distribution.
After the races the season's prizes wore distributed by Mra, A. L. Shicida. The Vice Commodore, Mr. A. L. Shields, welcomed the visitors in the absence of the Commodore, Mr. E W. Carpenter, and expressed regret that repairs to the bowling green had eliminated the bowling match, which was a feature of their opening and closing days.
Titania's Success,
Easter Day, a Kiangwan pony, won the big race of the day in convincing style, coming in many lengths in front of Mewgl! In the splendid time of minutes 11 seconds,
Messrs. Reidy, Lucy, Wallace, Potta and Stanton won a ruco each. In the second race, only two ponies finished, the others giving up long before the end. The two ponies which finished refused two fences each, and their jockeys had to apply their whips in order to make them complete the dia- tance.
In every race there wah a spill, injured. but fortunately no one was Many heavily backed ponies refused to take even a single fence, the most prominent of which was Mr. Burgess Fearon's Aroha (Mr. Roldy up), which carried quite a lot of publie support.
In spite of submarines being on the move and the imposathility of crow training, the Titania entry had again The band of the 1st Battalion won the Leveson Cup. They had Cumioroninns (Scottish Rifles) ren- crossed, the line in that event fourdered a pleasing selection of munte in times, and had only been beaten once, the members' enclosure under Band- That was their third win, twice in master H. E. Dowell, L.R.A.M. succession, and they had consequently won the cup outright.
He was piensed to ace that so many ladles had turned out, to sail boats in spite of the hot weather and congra
tulated those who land won.
After referring to the fairness of the handicapping, Mr. Shields Anid they had had enjoyable Sunday matches. They had sailed three races with the Navy, and although the Club obtained & substantial lead on the first day, the Navy won the next by a comfortable margin on the aggre- gate pointy.
