Mr. King, Registrar, here In- formed Kentwell that there was no reason to talk about fighting.

Kentwell made these remarks while he was in the witness box. under examination by Mr. M. B. Brown, who, on behalf of Chou Kwei-ching, endeavoured to ascer- tain whether he had any nasets.

On being asked by Mr. Brown whether he was employed, Kent- well replied, it is none of your.... business. Is it possible after this court has cut off my eyes and arms for me to earn anything?”

Mr. Brown: "Are you in any employment?"

Kentwell "I don't expect em- ployment from anyone."

Brown: "Are you earning any: money at all?"

Kentwell: "My friends have helped me. I have no money to pay this judgment summons."

Asked whether he was engaged in any journalistic pursuits, Kent- well declared that he was, as any body who read the China Courier would know. He wrote to expose British snobs like Brown al Reader Harris, but he didn't got any pay for it."

いす

Under further examination, Kentwell said that while Mr. Brown was cating beef steak and roast chicken, he himself would eat rice and salt cabbage, if necessary, 80 las to fight British snobs.

At the conclusion of his evidence, Mr. Brown asked that he be given further opportunity to prove that Kentwall had assets, hence he ask- ed that the case be adjourned sine' die.

Mr. King objected stating that the case had been adjourned more than once, and that counsel had shown no grounds for suspecting that Kentwell had any money and that he refused to pay. "Is, it right" asked Mr. King, "for me to insist that the defendant come here again? It would be an extraordin- ary procedure for me to do that, You have had two months to dis- cover whether he has any assets, and you have not shown that he has."

English Justice.

Mr. Brown: Then I withdraw the motion as far as security is concerned, but we do suspect that he has assets."

Kentwell then came back to the box and said that he intended to leave for England to fight snobs.

Mr. King: The English law has elements of justice, and you have been fairly treated..

On being asked by Mr: Brown how long he intended to stay in England, Kentwell replied that he could be back within 60 days, the Russian consul having assured him that he would give him a pass- port via Siberia, Kentwell added, "do you think I will let you know my movements?
