MRS. EDWARD WILLIAM DAWSON.

It is with great regret that we have to record the death of Mrs. Dawson, the widow of the late Mr." Edward William Dawson formerly of the Sanitary and Revenue De- partments. Mrs. Dawson passed away at 2.30 p.m. yesterday, after a protracted illness.

A sister of Mr. F. C. Mow Fung, J. P., Mr. E. Mow Fung, Mrs. W. Fincher and Mrs. E. Mackay of Kowloon and Mrs, Parkson of Foo chow, the deceased lady was member of A well-known local family. She was 18 years of age, She was a nurse and was formerly employed at the Lunatic Asylum as assistant mation.

N. Y. K. STRIKE.

With reference to the cable published yesterday concerning the strike of the cooks employed on the N. Y. K. steamers, result Ing in several of the company's vensels postponing their sailings, the local office of the Company advises that it has not received any advice of the strike, but Head Office In Japán has cabled informing the loent branch that all the Company's steamers would be 'salling ac- cording to schedule.

In answer to the charge the de- fendant pleaded guilty to 24 bottles of Brandy and two large jars of Chinese wine, stating that the re maining bottles enumerated in the charge were the property of an Indian watchman, who had had the liquor sent to him by another Indian in Macao.

A fine of $500 was imposed.
