A master of a Chinese druggist shop gave evidence to the effect that he was a cousin of the de- fendant. He had lont defendant moncy quite often, sometimes two or three large sums on one single day. On the 11th day of the 11th | moon he had lert defendant $2,000, at about 9 a.m. $7,000 at 11 am. and again $16,000 in the after- noon. He also remembered hav ing lont defendant $10,000 a few days later.

In opening the defence Mr. Alabaster said that the prosecu- tion had to satisfy his Worship with three things before they could consider the position of the de- fendant at all in the case. Firstly his Worship had to be satisfied that the defendant had $10,000 with him on that date. Secondly that at least three people in the Bank paid the sum of $10,000 against that particular cheque without knowing that the amount of the cheque was different from the amount, paid out.
