It is with much regret that we have to record the death of Mr. G. W. Avenel, which took place carly yesterday morning at the Govern ment Civil Hospital, where he had been a patient for the past fort- night. suffering from typhoid. The deceased was very well known and much respected locally, having resided in the Colony for very many years, his. geniality winning for him a large circle of friends.

Born in Farnham, England, on March 9, 1880, Mr. Avonell was approaching his 47th birthday. He came to Hongkong. In 1902, with the Sherwood Forresters. After serving some time here, he went with the regiment to Singa- pore but returned to the Colony as Armourer Staff Sergeant to the 1 Police and Hongkong Volunteers. March 1918 he Joined Mesars.
