·TRAMWAY' STRIKE.

ENCOUNTER IN STREET IN SHANGHAI.

Shanghai, Ján, 22. An encounter between the tram- way strikers and police took place this evening in Nanking Rond, when the strikers attempted to blook a street Intersection by tram without current pushing

The police appeared on the scene dispersing the tramway strikers with a baton charge in which

several strikers were injured but not seriously.

The situation at present is quiet. The tram workers who have been striking for four days were to-day Joined by three hundred motorinen and conductors of the Shanghai Omnibus Company, who atate that they have been intimi~ dated by the tram strikers.
