BRUTAL MURDER,

TRIAL OPENS AT THE

SESSIONS,

The brutal murder of the accoun- tant and caretaker of the Sik Ying" Seamen's Club, the premises of which are situated at 19, Cheung On Street, second floor, Kowloon City, on the night or morning of November 15th-16th., resulted in a Chinese being called upon to face

murder charge before the Chlet Justice, Sir Henry Gollan, at the Criminal Sessions this morning. The case for the Crown is being conducted by the Attorney General,, Sir Joseph Kemp, K.O, and Mr. Somerset Fitzroy Is defending

Sir Joseph Kemp, in outlining the circumstances to the jury, said in some cases the evidence for the prosecution was so clear and overwhelming that it seeme that there could be no answer on the part of the defence, Some- times there

was по Answer.

He would say quite frankly that the case before them was not a case of that class. It might be that the defence would have solar perfectly satisfactory kind of answer which might explain the j evidence for the prosecution in a way entirely favourable to the prisoner. That was not absolutely necessary, as, should the defence satisfy them there was a reason- able doubt, then they would return a verdict of "Not guilty."

In the case then being tried he submitted that on the evidence, as he knew it, and as he hoped to. petit before them, there was auf- fcient to justify them in bringing in a verdict of "Guilty."
