New York, Jan, 15. Mr. Alanson B. Houghton, Am- bassador at London, has called for Britain. He is expected to discuss with the British Government, the question of elevating the guns of American battleships "eo an to be on an equality with those of Britain and Japan."

The present range of American guns is declared to be 17,000 yards compared with 30,000 yards of for- eign' ships of the same class.
