Sir-Referring to Mr. Lindsell's comments on the "Bad Coin" case today, I attended the pay-in by the early duly conductors this after- noon. The shrofs discarded 6 coins. One was a good Chinese silver dollar. Two were "chop- ped" but otherwise perfectly good silver 10 gent pieces, one was an apparently good 10 cent plece but called WAS what the shroff

WILA + "smooth", and the last doubtful 10 cent plece.

The practice is to hand back to conductors all doubtful coins, and of this almost infinitesimal num- ber only a very small percentage are bad. The conductors know it is useless to try to pass bad coins off on to the experienced shroffs That explains why we get so few. Any obviously spurious coins that are handed in should be destroyed, and the shroffe have been instruct- ed accordingly.Yours, etc..
