decision in the appeal from a
Mr. Justice Summary Court by Wood. The case was the Bank Chinese note case in which a plaintiff claimed $500, the value. of a Hongkong had, Shanghai Bank note which was damaged in washing, a garment in which it was sewn for safety..
Judgment was given against. the Bank which was: represented by Mr. Potter. Mr. Somerset Fitzroy appeared for the plaintiff'
Mr. Potter after stating his application: said, the decision in- volved a question, of considerablo importance, not only to the Bank but to the general, public in that it was liable to have a, big effect on the note issue of the Colony. He then went on to "examine the judgment in the court below and in doing so quoted many authori- ties.
The Chief Justice asked counsel whether if the lady owning the note hud taken its number and was in a position to go to the Bank and say, "I have treated this note like this but the number was so and so the Bank would be liable to pay
Mr. Potter Bubmitted the Bank would not be liable in strict law although he could say, that they
would.

Mexico City, Dec. 17. The Government has telegraphed to foreign companies that if they do not apply for confirmation of their titles in accordance with the oil laws within the time limit, they will be deemed to hayo renounced their rights.
A statement, however, in the samo telegrams, says the law dopa not provide forfeiture" for viola- tion of the provisions.
