Much criticism was levelled at Stoker "Taff" Howard after his fight with Francis.on December 4th, and to a largo extent it was deserved.
Howard now writes me in the following terms:

"I should like to make comment concerning my fight with Francis. In the first place, I had only a few days proviously ar rived from Borneo, and the sud- den change of température was not likely to assist me at all.
"I went into serious training ön arrival but did not have sufficient time to do myself justice, and I was not really surprised at falling to give a good impression,
"As you remarked, I was too fat. My boxing weight is 167lbs., of 11at. 31be. I was fighting at 167lba, as you know.
"I may say that I am perfectly fit for my forthcoming
engage-
mont with A. B. Ewin, and after I have tackled him, I shall be pleas- ed to meet P. O. Francis'a 'wishes. In respect of a return bout.-Yrs., etc.. E. Howard."
DUTRE AND CANTLIDGE,
The prospects of n meeting be- tween Jim Cartlidge and Andre Dupre are remote, unless they agree to a six round contest. All the men mentioned in the pro- gramme for the December 21st. tournament have signed articles, and it is therefore impossible to arrange for another big fight..
It is a disappointment which might have been avoided had Dupre not arrived in the Colony unexpectedly.
Kid Raymond has expressed an anxiety to meet Andre Dupre, but judging from his exhibition with
a Portuguese fighter in Macao re- cently, he could not stand the pace with the Frenchman.

con- Raymond fought a man siderably heavier than himself, and retired after the first round I am given to understand, bat one would imagine that Raymond would be capable of, holding his own with anyone in Macao if he is sufficiently good to offer a chil- lenge to a boxer of Dupre's pali-
