Berlin-Armed with a fake per mit from the city officials to plas ter the scaffolding around the Brandenburg Gate with advertis- ing aigns, a swindler succeeded in collecting large foes from a num bar of firms before he was disco- vered and exposed.

The Brandenburg Gate is at pre- sent under repairs, for which pur- pose a big scaffolding has been erected, which is covered with wooden planks. One part of the gate was let by the swindler to a shoe firm, another to a chocolate manufacturer, and the part under- neath to the Quadrign Music Hall which intended to use it for a poster Inviting Berliners to see its Intest revue..

The sketches for the advertise- ment had already been prepared by these firms when the police intervened. The swindler, How- ever has not yet been caught.
