According to the evidence of n' Chinese detectiye, who had, bean: carrying out investigations un No. 220, Nathan Roud, he was re- turning to the Police Station, when on approaching the back door of No. 285, Jie an respectably dressed man standing outside. On hearing the doorway four: other men rushed out..
The detective solzed the nearest man, who happened to be the de-" fendant and after being searched the dagger. (a sharpened three- cornered file) was found in his left" hand coat pocket.

The man was taken back to 225, Nathan Road, from where it was learned that five respectably dressed Chinese called on the ground floor inmates and said that they, had come to white-wash the premises. The mistress thought the men were too well dressed to be lime wash- ers and shouted out that there wore thieves-in the house........
The men then rushed out, four of them escaping, while the de- fendent was caught by the detec- sive.
After hearing the detective's evidence. the Court ruled that the Instrument could be considered; a dagger within the meaning of the Ordinance and that there was, a |prima facie case against the, defen-
