SAI KUNG PIRACY.

A LONG DRAWN-OUT CASE CONCLUDED.

After many hearings, the, Sai Kung piracy and murder trial was concluded at the Kowloon Magis- tracy yesterday, when the five pri soners were committed for trial.at the Criminal Sessions.

The case has occupied 'the 'atten- tion of the Court for a month, the men making their first appearance: before Mr. J. H. B. Nihili on Octo- ber 21. The prosecutor called over 40 witnesses.

During the latter part of the trial, the third defendant uncon sciously resumed a humourous de- meanour, notwithstanding the seri- ousness of the trial. He was asked if he desired to cross-examine one of the witnesses who had given evidence.

Mind your head!" he remarked to the witness.

The Court appeared non-plussed, and his Worship asked the defen- dant what he meant by the phrase::

I want to tell the witness to mind that the thunder does not strike his head for telling les," [replied the defendant.

Time to Adjourn.

At the conclusion of another witness's testimony, which was aolely against the fourth defen- dant, the accused was asked if he had any questions to put to the wit- nese, but the third defendant inter-", posed.

When reminded by the Magis- trate that he was not entitled to questlar, the witness as the evid ence was not against him, the third defendant replied, "I can't bear standing here and hearing the witness tell Hes against this man (fourth defendant)" b

The Magistrate was about to read the evidence over to the wit- ness when the third defendant again interrupted the proceedings with the remark that it swAS 4. o'clock and time to adjourn.

The Ave defendants were com- mitted on charges of murdering an Indian guard of the steam launch Sai Kung and with committing piracy on the launch which was on- her way from the Sai Kung dis trict to Hongkong on September 18.
