TATAL SMASH Both G. M. Lillis, relief ongineer, and Harold Harpending, from whom Lillis had just taken the throttle, were killed as the engine of the "Scenio Limited" U.S.A., hurtled down an embankment to this resting place in the river bottom. In a state- ment blaming Lillis for the disaster, President J. S. Pyeatt of the Denver and Rio Grande said rules of the road restricting speed.on curves were not observed.

WRECK OF SCENIO LIMITED. Twenty-seven deaths and injury to 50 was the toll of the Denver & Rio Granda Railway's Scenic Limited near Salida, Colorado. The locomotive, a baggage car, two coaches and a pullman plunged from the rails to the bottom of the Royal Gorge as the engineer attempted to round a curvo sf 40 miles an hour. This picture, shows in a graphic manner how the oars piled up in the Arkansas rivor alongside the right-of-way.
