Mr. Dyer Ball said that on Septem- ber 28th, at 9.16 p.m., Inspector Bloor went to a certain house in Hollywood Road, second floor. He had received information that the house was being used for im- moral purposes. He inspected the premises and made enquiries, as. a result of which he came to the conclusion that his information was correct.
He gave instructions to a Chin ese detective who was with him to take the principal tenant of the floor to the Central Police Station to be detained. He emphasised the fact that the woman in the dock was not that principal tenant. Inspector Bloor then prepared to leave the house, and as he was doing as he felt someone touch him from behind. On looking round, he saw the prisoner, who had a bundle of notes in each hand. She held them out to the Inspector, at the same time anying words in Chinese which, the prosecution alleged to mean "Do not arrest. I will give you money. You' can go and drink, tea," The Inspector | called to the Chinese detective who was just ahead, and he saw the woman hold out the notes, and the Inspector take them. The woman was arrested and taken to the Cen- tral Police Station...
Referring to statements made by the prisoner at the Magistracy, Mr. Dyer Ball said they were to the. effect that she did not know the regulations, and she thought if she gave $30 to the Inspector he would not arrest her. She there fore 'admitted giving the money to the Inspector, but ahe said it was for the purpose of not being ar reated Herself, She was not hør- self under arrest, and it did not appear that she was likely to bo arrested; therefore he did not know exactly what she meant by that statement: The question was-Did she wish the Inspector not to arrest the principal tenänti who was already under arrest,
