Eighteen Years Here.

The Rev., W. H, Hewitt came to the Colony about 18 years ago and has been with the St. Stephen's College for the past 16 years, during eleven of which he has been warden.

At the close of the dinner Mr. Ng Sze-kwong addressed those present. Speaking of the guest of honour he said that they werd gathered to bid farewell to the Reverend W. H. "Hewitt, who, on the advico of his doctors, was shortly to return Home on retire- ment. It was always hard to scy farewell to one who had been a guide, philosopher and friend, he sale and on the necasion of the impending departure of their be loved warden, it was really difficult to find words to express their re- gret,

Great Responsibilities.

If he was not mistaken the speaker continued, Mr. Hewitt 38 warden took up his duties eleven years ago, since which time his hard work and unceasing toil in shouldering his great respon- sibilities had told on his health, particularly during the past few years when he had had to face the problem of keeping up the school under a serious handicap, in a small and unsuitable building and with no definite idea as to when the proposed new structure would be erected.

"

In spite of these great difcel- ties, Mr. Hewitt has conducted the affairs of the College in a very able and courageous manner, judging from the number of boys who have flocked to it and the namber who have had to, be turned away for lack of accommodation.

The College's Loss. Failing health had now made it' retiro. It necessary for him to was anfortunate for the College and its students that it was so, and it was obviously hard for him in view of the fact that his dream of a now and better building for the college for which he had worked so hard had not yet been realised.

He had no doubt Mr. Hewitt's anxiety on this score was a real one, and was Bure it would be relieved if he could assure him that he could trust the old boys and the well wishers of the Col- lage to see that the building soon became a reality.

As to the work of the College after Mr. Hewitt had left them the chairman said Mr. Hewitt must feel very happy to think that in Mr. Martin he has a trusted and worthy successor.

They all felt truly sorry that the warden was about to leave them and much as they would like to retain him hero, by hook ar by crook, he was sure Mr. Hewitt would appreciate their good inton- tlans much better if they surren- dered him gracefully, considering
