BOYCOTT COMES TO AN END.

CANTON LIFTS THE BAN AGAINST

HONGKONG.

TRADE REVIVAL HOPES.

Although there has been no official communication from Canton on the subject, intimations from other sources appears to make it clear that the anti-British boycott, definitely came to an end yesterday at noon,

The Strike Committee has notified that the boycott: has terminated and that there will be no interference with shipping or passengers. Furthermore, the pickets' examination shed on the Canton Bund is in course of demolition.

From Macao and various points in the New Territories it is reported that all the pickets have been withdrawn, and there is a report that they may be used in connection with the prevention

of smuggling, under the new taxation scheme.

Arrangements are being made for the resumption of river shipping, and the general opinion in Canton is that trade will. gradually be resumed and slowly recover.
