UNBURIED DEAD LITTER WUCHANG STREETS.

(Our Own Correspondent.)

Shanghai, Oct. 6

A Hankow message reports that two rescue launches and several lighters successfully renewed their rescue effort, and proceeded to Wuchang on Sunday. and Monday, bringing twelve thousand women and children to Hankow.

The Northerners specially per mitted the beggar and impover Ished element to depart, holding.. the batter classes back.

Charitable organizations are caring for those rescued, who re aate appalling stories as to the con- ditions in Wuchang, where the people are eating dogs, cats and rats. The roots.and leaves from trees have already been eaten.

The military force is also starvs- ing after consuming all the live- stock.

Bodles cover the streets, un buried, coffins not being available as they are being filled with sand and used as barricades.

The refugees report that two hundred were killed during the recent sortie from the gate...

Rescue vessels are going again. The peace negotiations have en- tirely broken down.

"

Afy exact information regard- Ing which side is winning in the fighting areas is impossible. It is not even known here which side' holds Nanchang of the fate of the inhabitants, since the Southerners captured Tehan, where, communi- sation with Kiukiang is cut off. A rumour that the Southerners have captured Kiukiang is doubted here. NEW DRIVE' ON NANCHANG.")
