NEW FRENCH CHARCOAL FUEL
The French authombile, engin eer, like Judge Jarriquez, "is a very ingenious' man," and just as in Its early stages he led the world in the construction of the Internal combustion enginc, so now the French are the pioneers in the use of the auction gpe-producer to supply the explosive agent in re- placement of gas from motor spirit.
The prime motive underlying this development is the compelling necessity of checking the ever- increasing quantities of petroleum products which must be imported from foreign countries. As one of the advertisements of a well- known make of gas-producer reads: "Why pay 100 francs to. the American Oil King, instead of 20 francs to French charcoal- burners?"
And that such an economy can be effected is borne out by official figures chocked by responsible and disinterested people. Recently a Ford ton van, fitted with a gas- producer weighing 353 pounds, underwent, an official test under the auspices of the Automobile Club of France, and some inter- esting figures were subsequently published.
Result Of Test.
The weight of the vehicle, ready for the road, and with a load of .900 bricks, in addition to its driv- er and two passengers was 4,724
A FLYING MOTOR CAR
A successful test of the "Aeromobil," a German inven- tion proved that this vehicle can be uead either for an Automobile with wings folded or as a light aeroplane with wings unfolded. With wings folded and the propeller re- moved, as shown, it is a one-saat automobile which can be housed in an ordinary one-car garage.
