Within a month of the daring hold Up by a gang of armed rob- bars at Ku Lu Kok, where a num- bor of local anglers had gone for the week-end, another outrage by certain individuals operating in British waters was reported to the Police yesterday on the arrivale In port of the Sai Kung ferry launch, which was victimised by n gang of five men,

Although the attempt to rob the passengers failed, the intruders shot two of the Indian guards be fore lonving the launch, which, boing on its way to Hongkong, re turned to the Colony where the wounded men were sent to hosp

| tulong suffering from injuries to hia hip and head, while the other was wounded in his head. One of the wounded men, as well as n third guard. is said to have been thrown into the water.

Thoy were, however, rescued by sam pans after the robbers had left.

Communication is maintained between Sai Kung, which is about 40 miles away, and Hongkong, by a ferry launch. There is a daily. service of one launch which leaves Hongkong in the morning and re- turns that same night.

plement of eleven, and three In- dian guards armed with Winches ter rifles, left Shaukiwan ad usual yesterday morning, and duly arri ved at her destination. Shortly Betoro 4 o'clock she departed from Sal. Kung on her return trip to Hongkong with 16 passengers on board and a small consignment of Cargo, A Passengers Commandeer Launch. Very shortly after, her depar- ture, four or five passengers sud- denly appearen from the lower deck and produced revolvers, with which they held up the others on board, Having gained control of the launch they ordered the coxswain to divert her course in the direc tion of Lung Shuen (Dragon) Wan, which is situated on the op- posite side of Sai Kung to Hong- kong,

The men coming upon two of the guards fired at one of them, wound- ing him slightly in the head. They then disarmed both men. Ona man then rushed the bridge, where Another guard was on duty, but tha Indian retaliated and a struggle, ensued during which the latter was wounded in three places. Two of the wounds were in his head and he now lies seriously hurt in the Kowloon Hospital,

Having disarmed the guards, the pirates proceeded to turn their at- tention to the passengers, but not before they had thrown the first two guards overbeard. A safe containing the ship's money was opened and some $500 extracted. A basket containing clothing be | longing to ono of the passengers also attracted the attention of the robbers, while a female passenger lost a coat.

A Police Arrive.

Before the men had thoroughly searched the passengers and lug gage, they noticed a Police launch approaching, and-eet about making their escape before assistance ar rived. Using sampans which they had commandeered, they left the ferryboat and went ashore.

The No. 2 Police Launch, which was patrolling that area, came alongside the Sul Kung, knowing that thing was amies, in view of her being out of her course, On learning of the piracy, the officers on board fired several shots in the direction the robbers-had taken, but without effect, the men having disappeared before the Police ar rived:

The Sai Kung was then escorted into barbour, arriving shortly after. dark yesterday

All the passengers on the launch were taken to the Water Police Station, where they were closely examined. It is alleged that the Indian guard who was not injured recognised one of these passengers as having assisted In throwing him overboard.

The robbers soom to have bren aware that certain merchant would be travelling by the Sai Kung with a large sum of monoy The merchant at the Police Station yesterday sold that he had in his possession, a sum of $5,000, which was wrapped up in a pleco of paper On the robbers revealing their identity he immediately threw tho packet info tab hold; and it thus escaped the attention of the pirates.
