SHIP COLLISION.

MISHAP IN DENSE FOG.

London, Sept. 3. The North Foreland steamer Volumbia reports that she collid- ed with the Dutch steamer Djambi, hound from Batavia for London und Rotterdam, in a dense fog.

The Volumnin was damaged, and is ashore near Dover.

Later:

The Djambi is heavily damaged in the port bow, and her atern ja broken, but all above water.- Peter

Then they were conveyed in dirty, evil-smelling tug to Ellis Island, carrying their own luggage, no assistance being offered, to them. All Mr. "Critchley's papers were in order, and his examina- tion was purely formal in charac- ter. He did not strip. or anything of that kind..

The officer who questioned him, he says, admitted that he ought not to have gone to Ellis Jaland, and it was absurd for him to have been sent there.

Eventually he stopped ashore about noon on the Monday,

Mr. Critchley described one offi- cial as most coarse and ungentle- manly in manner. A missionary, who had his children with him, was asked if they were his, and the official retorted,. "Perhaps." on answering in the affirmative,

Conduct of that kind Mr. Critch- ley strongly condemned.
