Interest Paid.

Defendant asked for the repay" ment of the principal, but witness was unable to do this, and paid $15 interest. He had not yet re- paid the principal. About the middle of last month complainant again asked for interest and wit ness, agreed to settle the debt.

On the 27th he was on his boat whon defendant's wife came along. side in a sampan Witness went aahore and found the first defen- dant waiting for him in a motor

car,

• Witness was invited to sit in the car and have a chat and defendant again asked for the money. He produced a promissory note for $120, and asked witness to sign it. Seeing that it bore the name of Kwok Knu, withcas refused. After further conversation the car drove away, and while in motion the first defendant caught hold of wit- ness by the throat and said if he still refused to sign it they would go to the Inspector at Shaukiwan Police Station.

Police Signal Ignored. The car turned back after going: some distance, and when witness was again seized he cried out.. Two policemen called upon the car to stop but the first defendant told the driver to drive on.

Being threatened that he would be killed if he failed to sign the note, witness did so. Still in the car, defendant produced a Chinese pen and ink and witness signed the note.
