INTERESTING APPOINTMENTS

The appointment of several Cap- tains to new commands has been announced. Included In the num bor la Captain Lawrence W. Braith walle, C.M.G., who is appofited to the Hawkins as Elar Captain and Chief of Staff to Vice Admiral Sir Edwyn Alexander-Sinclair, K.CB., M.V.O., the Commander-in- Chief of the China Station. From 1929 for two years he was Chief of Staff of the Plymouth Command; } and since April last year has been the senior officer of the Reserve

-Paymaster-Commander Hugh Miller, D.S.O., has been appointed to the RN. College, Dartmouth. During the latter part of the war ho was secretary to Admiral of the Fleet Lord Wester Wemyss, G.C.B., C.M.G., M.V.D., D.C.L, when De- puty First Sea Lord and First Sen Lord. In July 1919 he became secretary to Admiral Sir Alexander L. Duf, G.C.B., G.B.E., K.C.V.O., on taking over the command of the -Ching-station For the last-three- years he has been the Accountant Officer of the Atlantic Fleet, flag ship Revenge, In which position he is to be relieved by Paymaster- Commander Francis E.. Adams, late of the destroyer depot ship Woolwich of the Devonport reserve fleet.

Other Appointments.

The following appointments were made by the Admiralty on August 7. Paymaster Lieut.-Com- mander G. L. Simmons to H.M.S Ambrose, and Paymaster Lieut.: A. J. V. Chubb-to H.M:S. Ambrose. The following appointments were made by the Admiralty on August 6. Lidut. F. J. V. Halahan to H.M.S. Titania, additional from September 1, and for command of S/M on joining. Lieutenant J. Gi Gould and Sub-Lieut. P. Q. Roberts to H.M.S. Titania. for submarines from September 1.

were made by the Admiralty on July 30-Lleut. L.-A-Lambert-to H. M. S. Titania and C.D. Election. J. Belcher to H. M. S. Ambrose.

Lieut. L. A. Lambert has been posted to the Titania, depot ship at Hongkong. for watch-keeping: duties. Lieut. Lambert was lat terly doing duty with the battle- ship Iron Duke. -----

Lieut. G. N. Loriston-Clarke has been appointed to HMS. Despatch:

Temporary Instructor Lieut- J. R. Wilson, B. Se, has been ap- pointed to H.M.S. Despatch.

A vacancy occurred on July 26 in the post of flag-captain on board the battleship Revenge, when Cap- tain R. M. Colvin, C.B.E., was suc- teeded by Captain Dudly North,. C.S.I., CM.G., C.V.O., who accom- panied the Prince of Wales on all his Empire tours since the war.

Lieut. S. D. Roper has been ap- pointed to HMS. Hawkins, dating. from August 10.

Lieut. C. F. W. St. Quintin has been appointed to HMS. Hawkins, dating from August 15, 21.

Gunner B. Balderston has been appointed to H.M.S. Magnolia and Gunner F. T. Gribbon to HMS. Bluebell, both dating from August 16.

Lieut.-Commdr. R. G. Chichester has been appointed to H.M.S. Petersfield as from August 20...

TROPICAL HURRICANE.

OVER $6,000,000 DAMAGE.

New Orleans, Aug. 30, The casualties in the hurricane at Houma, Louisiana, are now, stated to be.19 killed and 12 miss- ing. The damage is estimated at over five million dollars. The Red Cross 18 relieving sufferers.
