Extraordinary interest was con- tred on the fifth and final Test Match at the Oval, which is to bo played to a finish, the first four having reached no decision.

The match commenced in glori ous sunshine on a drying wicket. There were ten thouand specta- tors present.

Chapman won the toss and sent in Hobbs and Sutcliffe to open the innings for England, against the bowling of Gregory and Grimmett. The batsmen opened carefully, both playing two maidon overs.

The Hongkong team were very lavishly entertained by their hosts, a dinner in their honour being given at the Boa Vista Hotel on Saturday evening, when speeches were made by Mr. Nolasco (Presi- dent of the Club de Macao) and Mr. Ng Sae-Kwong and Mr. K. L. Chau for Hongkong.

London, August 7: Playing for Mr. Weigal's team against the Gentlemen of York- shire at Woodhall Spa, Mr. Clem Hill, the famous Australian player of former years, made 105.

One of the best batsmen Austra- lia produced, Clem Hill, in his day, played many notable innings and has four centuries to his credit in Test Matches against England: 188 at Melbourne in 1897-8, 135 at Lords in 1899, 119 at Sheffield in 1902, and 160 at Adelalde in 1907-8.

Hi, highest score in a first-class match was 385 not out for South Australia against New South Wales at Adelaide in 1900-1. In 1909-10-e-scored throu turies in euccessive innings, and. in the season 1897-8 he. had the largest aggregate of rans in Aus-
