GOVERNMENT ASKED FOR BOUNTY,

A recent deputation to Mr.) Pratten of Australian engineering firms asked the Government for a bounty on the production of an all-Australian motor-car, and also! a duty when the production is proved. The scheme involves o co-operative arrangement bo. tween different undertakings, each constructing a separate part, for example, the engine, transmission gear, electrical equipment, chassis, and body. The capital of these companies is £1,500,000. It is proposed to form a now company, with a capital of £1,000,000, for assembling and selling the cars, and to build a six-cylinder car adapted to Aura- tralian condition. Mr. Pratéen daid:
