The Chinese Recreation. Club is sending a tennis team to Macao' to-morrow morning to play a two day match against the Club de Macao. The contest will be un the lines of the local tennis league, except that the pairs will play matches instead of an eleven-game set.
Nine doubles matches will be played in all, starting to-morrow afternoon at 3.30 p.m. and con- tinuing on Sunday at the time.

Gertrude Ederle, the first woman to swim the English Channel, said that she was on the point of giving up the attempt seven-minutes after atarting because of the heavy. swell, but decided that she ought to make some kind of a showing "with all those tugs following and people watching."
She arrived here from Dover this afternoon and is on her way to Stuttgart, Germany, where abe will spend a week with her grandmother before returning to New York on August 27. She enjoyed a good' night's sleep in a hotel in Dover and said that she felt considerably. refreshed.
