CAFE PARISIEN: FRACAS.

CHARGES OF DISORDERLY CONDUCT.

The adjourned case In which Mr. L. G. Taylor, formerly manager of the new Cafe Parisien, was charged with disorderly conduct on 14th-15th inst., was called at the Magistracy yesterday.

At the same time five charges in connection with the same incidents were preferred against Mr. J. L Durand, who is a partner in the cafe with Madame Flint. These charges allege assault, abusive language and disorderly conduct.

Mr. Hugh. Jones appeared for Mr. Durand and Mr. Taylor con-

ducted his own cuse,

It appears that a musical timin was advertised for the 14th.,, but the band was late, and Mr. Durand spoke to Mr. Taylor about it and high words ensued. In the even- ing some sailors entered the cafe, and Mr. Durand again, reproved" Mr. Taylor, the upshot being words between Mr. Durand and Mrs. Taylor, blows and a considerable disturbance.

Manager's Evidence,

Mr. Taylor in evidence said that Mr. Durand went to him at noon and told him two friends were roming to tilin and he wanted them specially, attended to. A table was reserved. At 1 pm. Mr. Durand, came up and said "Where's the band?" Witness said, "I have ordered it: it will be here in a few minutes." The band arrived at 2 Ji.m. Madame Flint was there, very excited. Mr. Durand said "You-fopl,, I will take you by the neck and throw you out of the Cafe.!!

Witness, recounted the evening incidents.

Mr. Alexander Schultz, assist ant manager of the Russo-Asiatic Bank, said he was in the cafe at 1.15 p.m. and heard Mr. Durand. and Mr. Taylor in argument. Mr.. Durand told Mr. Taylor that his Services were, unsatisfactory and blamed him for the absence of the hand. Mr. Taylor was trying to explain, but Mr. Durand was very angry and said "I feel like break- ing your neck."

Mr. C. E. dos Remgilios, clerk in the Russo-Asiatic Bank, borated Mf. Schultz.

Midnight Row.

Mr. Charles Henry Cotton, assistant manager of the Cafe Parision, said he was in the lobby just after midnight on the 14th- 15th, and saw two sailors with Mr. Taylor and Mr. Durand. The latter was at the doorway but came in and said to Mrs. Taylor, that it was Mr. Taylor's fault for allowing the sailors in the restaurant. Mrs. Taylor said that her husband could not be in two places at once- upstairs and at the door, Mr. Durand told Mrs. Taylor to leave the restaurant, saying "I don't want you here. Get out!" Mrs.. Taylor said she wanted written notice. Mr. Durand insisted that she leave, and pushed her. She refused to go and he called her a -fool. She slapped his face, where- upon he kicked her in the legs and ran upstairs. Mrs. Taylor went to fetch her husband, wao went opstairs Per Mr. Durand. Wit- ness ealed a Chinese noliceman, who said he could not do anything. until whistle was blown. Wit ness then, aaw Mr. Durand coming downstairs with his hands bleed- ing, and Mr. Taylor after him. Mr. Taylor was normal. Witness did not see the subsequent diatur- bance, but heard it.....

Threw a Chair,

Mrs. Landau, manageress of Madame Flint's Beauty Parlour, said she heart the disturbance, in the lobby. There was a dispute over a letter which Mrs. Taylor was demanding. Mr. Darand Baid he would give it to her in the morning. Both were excited. Mrs. Taylor slapped Mr. Durand's face and Mr. Durand' klekod, but witness did not see exactly what happened. Witness went up to the office with Mr. Durand, who had not had time to open his type- writer when Mr. Taylor. came in and said: "Did you call my wife A...4 ? Mr.. Taylor lifted a chair and threw it at Mr. Durand, who ran, with Mr. Taylor after him.

Mr. Durand also gave evidence and the case was adjourned until to-morrow at 2.15 p.m.
