FATALITY,

Messrs Hamilton and Lob have just conducted an inquiry, at the Public Mortuary, Shanghat, into: the circumstans surrounding the death of Sung Slou-kung, à riceha puller, who died on Monday.

Sub-Inspector Walker informed" the Court that a man called de ceased at 5.1 a. on June 2 and put a gallon tin of petrol into the.. riceha. The ricahn went a little way along the road when the pas senger apparently dropped a light ed cigarette into the tin and the contents burst into a flume. The de- ceased attempted to extinguish the flames and, in doing so, was very badly burned. He had to be sent to the hospital and, on Monday, the hospital authorities reported that he had died. As far as the polico. knew, deceased had no relatives in Shanghai.

Ming Ongewe, owner of the Far Eastern Garage, testified that a man came to his garage, bought tho petrol and left. He called the ric sha and got into it, talding with him the gasoline. Some twenty yards away, witness saw a mass of flames burat from the ricksha. He did not know the man who purchased the petrol as the man did not sign a chit. He paid cash. One of wit-
