THE ASIA COAL AND |BRIQUETTING CO., LTD.

SOME DELINQUENT SHAREHOLDERS,

The first ordinary yearly inceling of shareholders in the Company, was held at the offices of Messre. Douglas Lapruik and Company, at 18 noon, Thursday, May 27.

Mr. M. B. Yung was in the chair and thore were also present Mr. H. P. White, Mr. G. K. Hall Brutton, Mr. H. L. Yung (Directors), Mr. Walton Ng (Secretary) and Messre. V Riedler and A. R. F. Raven (Shareholders),

Mr. Walter Ng, the Secretary, read the notice convening the meeting.

་་

The Chairman: Gentlenion, the Report and Statement. of Accounts together with the Auditors' report, have been in your hands for some days and with your permission, propose to follow the usual proce dure and take them as read.

Referring to our necounts, you will note that the comparatively large amount of $17,108 duo on allotment and calls, we have been unable to collost. This amount representa over 40 percent of tho total amount on which we had overy right to count in making our plans for development of site and purchase of briquetting plant. The general situation in the Colony can be blamed for the greater number Lof these delinquencies, the result of which, has been to retard all of the plans and operations of the Company. Had times been normal, we should have now been in a posi- tion to put our briquettes on the market.

In order to be as lenient as possible, wo pustponed the first call for three months from Septem- bor 21st to December 16th, and after that until March 27th, 1026. We applied all the pressure possible" without taking definite action, to make the remaining delinquents pay

11 T

On March 27th, by order of the Board, a notice was sent out requiring all call money to be paid on or before April 15th, failing which the shares on which the said call money was due would be offered for sale by the Company at various discounts according to amounts already paid on "them. Until sold they stil rennin the property of their original subscribers.

Expenditure.

Our expenditures, with the excep- Lion of thrike of administra tion, have been practically all for site development and briquetting plant and buildings The reclama tion of our site, which consists of 674.400 square feet of foreshore and water, and the building of 1,010 Teos of seawall in an average depth of 22 feet of water represents work of sufficient magnitude to warrant the installation of eficient equip. ent and the adoption of a method of work which will enable the whole to be completed at the lowent unit, cost. With this aim in view, the Company began in March, 1925 to build two ravity planos and to ork the bill in three banches to gain our filling, and by following this method a sufficient amount of dirt and rock will be made available for the whole, reclamation and can be handled at comparatively low figures. The cost of this equipment, together with tracks, car and smanli tools, amounts fa round numbers to $18,000. If we now divide this amount by 600,000 the estimated number of cubic yards of material ta be handled over it, it gives us three pents por cubic yard to be written off for this equipment, assuming tint is is valueless at the completion of the work, A con- Sractor with the aid of this layout is now handling, dirt for 11 cents por cabic yard, to which must.be added our three cents to pay för equipment, making the final cost 14 cente. Comparing this cost with the cost of dirt Gll in other parts. of the Colony where conditions are quite similar, I find that wo affecting a saving of about 60% which amounts on the whole job in $50,000, which amply justifies our expenditure of $18,000 for Bito development plant.

half of its capacity due to the cunde previously mentioned.

About 30,000 square feet of inad hasboon reclaimed in water averag ing 10 feet deep and "some sixty feet, of rubble mound for the son wall. has been placed in water fest deep. The foundation for tho briquetting plant, consisting of 4,000 square foot of large rock filler, has been put in and the greater part of the footings and foundation walls for the briquetting building have been completed. The public hight way has been widened from 0 to 40 foot for a distance of 350 feet to comply with the Government requiroments, which has, involved both a rock cut and n 20 foot fll.

Briquetting Plant-A briquetting plant by the well known makers of Yendon briquetting machinery, & Co., Leeds, has been purchased and a sum of $7,260 paid on necolint.. The balance of $21,700 plus interest nt 8% from July 1st, 1025, Under normal conditions the plant should have been up and in operation by this time.

During the year experiments have" been carried on for the perfecting of a coal briquette designed "to take the place of firewood in Chinese, kitchens, and we now have a farniula. for, making a briquette which is a intisfactory substitute for firewood and which will cut the coat of fuel by 50 percent when soid at a figure that will set the Company substantial profit. This: opens up a new and almost unbmit- ed field for our briquettes,

With the return to nurayal of the affairs we may claim that prospects are brighter than
