DISTRESS AMONG MINERS.

That the cost of the late general strike would not involve any additional taxation, was the announcement made in the House of Commons by Mr. Winston Churchill yesterday when replying to questions.

It is estimated that the strike has cost the National Union of Railwaymen nearly £1,000,000 and that it has cost the railway Com- panies over £5,000,000. The confession has been made by the General Secretary of the N.UR. that a general industrial strike could never be carried out effectively.

.

Appeals are made for assistance to suffering miners, and the miners' leader has announced that he is prepared to accept money from Russian mine workers.
