FURTHER QUESTIONS.

Other replies made by accused

to Mr. Jenkin were as follows:-

The provisions accounts showed decrease in 1922 as compared with the previous year.

This was due to the fact that he aid not entertain friends in the premises in 1922.

The cessation of this hospitality was due to there being no accom modation, owing to the number of apprentices employed in that later period.

He had stated once to his own counsel, and twice to cross-examin- ng counsel, in yesterday's evi- dence that he employed only two apprentices in 1922.

Now he gave the name of a third apprentice, as being employed in that same period. He had neglect- ed to mention this third man pre- viously, because it did not occur to him then to give amongst the mum- Ler an employee who was not in receipt of any pay and whose name was consequently not entered in his accounts books.

At this stage the Court rose for the timu interval The hearing was resumed in the afternoon.
