The Presentation. Afterwards, in the Yacht Club, the winner was heartily congratu- lated and Copt, W. Davison, Rear / Commodore, presented the trophy to Mr. T. de Meester, the manager of the Java China Japan Line, and a silver cup to Mr. Nowotny, the Third officer of the Tilsondari, who commanded the winning boat.
Captain W. Davison, in presen ing the trophy and cup said he supposed he had been selected tɔ do that because he was an old sailor. The race just sailed was the fifth and, he thought, the mat Eatisfactory one they had seen so far. The boats were all handled well, especially the winner, the second and the third.
On going through the boat after- wards he had found all gear in good condition, the boat in good shape generally, well kept and a credit to the ship she belonged to. He had great pleasure in asking Mr. de Meester to accept the trophy for his company and Mr. Nowotny a silver cup. (Applause). A Trophy in Batavia. Mr. de Meester, in accepting the trophy, remarked that it was the second time it had been won by one of the company's ships." The first time the trophy was ever raced for it was won by the s.. Tjipanas, and in recognition of that feat (he was in Batavia" at the time) he bought a similar prize and presented it for competi-. tion in that port. That was alse soiled for twice a year, and so far had always met with great success. He hoped the Hongkong trophy would be sailed for over many years, and always provide good races (Applause).
ན་
Mr. Nowotny also suitably re- plied.
The officers in charge, of the.. rice were. Mr. E. W. Carpenter, Commodore R. H. K. Y. C., Cant. W. Davison, R.N.R., Rear Commo- dore, R. H. K. Y. G. and Comm- dure A. J. B. Stirling, C. B., R. NA
