CHINESE MILLIONAIRE.

DEATH IN THE PHILIPPINES.

Benito Sly Cong Blengi local Chinese millionaire and one of the most Influential Chinese merchants. in the Philippines, died yesterday afternoon at the Kabillhan Lum- Bell, Kabibihan, Tayabas, Hays the Manila Bulletin of the 14th instant,

A telegram announcing his death came from Mr. Edward Chesley, manager and part owner of the Kabibihan mills.

Three telegrams were received, from Mr. Chesley by Leoncio Siy Cong Blong, manager of Siy Cong Bleng, Inc and tho oldest Sty son. The first, which WEB received at 4.50 o'clock, xinied that the millionaire merchant was taken suddenly. It requested that a doctor be rush- ed to Kubibihan. The second tele- gram arrived a few minutes later, stating that Mr. Sly had suffered 1 severe attack. At about 4 o'clock, the telegram announcing his death was received,

The news of Mr. Sly's death came as a sudden shock to his friends and relatives. Leoncio Bieng, his eldest son, upon receiv. ing the first telegram, prepared to #ond doctors and nurses to Kabibi-1 han by special train, but the dunthi telegram was received before the train departed. Instructions was wired to have the body sent to Manila this morning,

Despite the advices of his sons, relatives and friends, Mr. Siy left for Kabibihan April 1, to inspect the lumber mills there, of which he is the principal owner, He was accompanied by a nurse. Last Sunday, two local doctors left fo Kabibihan to attend him. He had been ill for three years.
