have more than the Orient has to-day is a contention very often made by Japanose publicists and politicians. That some of this fand still lies undeveloped, al- though Occidental nations have held it for a long period, is adduc- ed as a further reason why simple justice demands some return to the crowded nations of the Orient of some of the lands taken away from the East by. white races.”,

The latest person' to advocate this is Mr. Yusuke Tsurumi, onė of the leaders of the younger. liberal element of Japan. Mr. Tsurumiis son-in-law of Viscount! Shimpei Goto, famous Japanese statesman, and returned recently from the United States where, at tbo invitation of leading jurists of America, he dolivered a series of lectures on Japan in practically every state of the Union.

Taking for his subject "Peace," Mr. Tsurumi told the Tokyo Wo- men's Club that "behind all peaco talk thäre must be an understand. ing of the demand of the less fortunately placed for justice.j "Just treatment of all human beings on a basis of 'live and let live policy," he said, "Is abso lutely necessary. If peace talk! is based upon such an under-i standing it will be constructive i and beneficent, but it will be futilo if latent needs,of unfortun ate nations be ignored."

"The desire for World peace is dominant all over the world," he declared. "particularly in the West as a result of the Great War. But it must be remembered that; in the Orient," he went on, an irresistible tendency is root- ed in the poople to feel that they have lost territory to the West, which had causod inherent resent- ment. The fact that the West, with vast territories gain od, by conquest, has slammed the doors of those lands in the faces of the peoples of the Orient, especially when those vast areas, are sparse- ly populated, is regarded both as a racial insult and as an econo mic injustice. As a result the Orient cannot understand how a

KOREAN AND JAPANESE SENTENCED.

Bokuretsu, a Korean, and Fu- miko, a Japanese girl with whom Boturotsu lived, wore to-day santanced to undergo the extreme penalty of the law on a charge of having conspired against the lives of certain members of the Japan- ese Imperial Family. The pun- ishment for treason of this nature, even if the plot fails, is death. The plot was hatched in the confusion following the aftermath of the 1923 earthquake, and Boku- reteu and his female companion are thought to have done so, in order to avenge the hundreds of Koreans and radicals who were mercilessly killed in the confusion that followed the cismic disaster.

More than 200 persons gathored about the Court House this morning hoping for a chance to get in. Entrance was by ticket and only a hundred were PET- mitted to get in. They were chiefly Koreans and Japanese' radicals.

Neither moved an oyelid. Bokuretsu, bowing with mock dignity, said to the Judge:

Go- kuro-sama." (I am sorry to have put you to all this inconvenionco). The girl, Fumiko, oven dofiant, waved her hands in the air and shouted: "Banzai" (Hurrah).
