ST. JOSEPH'S PRIZE DAY,"
SCHOLARS' AWARDS TO GO
TO NEW LIBRARY;
Loyalty of School During Strike,
It was prize day at St. Joseph's College yesterday, and the func tion was hold in the new library. This was the first time it had been ased for a public function. A. notable feature of the gathering was the fact that the prize winners had foregone. their awards, prefer- ring the books to remain and formi the nuclens of the library which is being started.
An excellent entertainment was provided by the Rev. Father A. Reganti, Mr. M. Andres, Master Desrhond John Braga, Master
Dillon, Mr. E. d'Aquino, Master Ernest Figueiredo, Master Ivor Johnston and other pupils."
Director's Report.
The Rev. Bro. Director, in the course of his report, mentioned. that the students had consented, to giving their prizes as the ny- oleus of a library, and then ap- pealed to old boys, and friends to
subscribe to generously
tho Jubilee Fund. He further stated t The parents of our boys may wish to know how we got on last] year. The strike did not affect our numbers to any appreciable! xtent, but the unusual duration of the midsummer holidays inter- rupted the boys' etudies to the de- triment of the results obtained in the University examination, which were only fairly good.
Seven passed the Matriculation. Francisco Jorge and Ker Hong Bee with Honours; one passed the Senior Local, and 22 the Junior Local Examination.
The College is now a fully or- gantsed Secondary School with Science and Commercial. Depart ments; 84 students are going through a three years' course in Physics and Chemistry; and those among them who latend to pur sue their studies in the University! will no longer be handicapped for lack of facilities to include those subjects in the. Matriculation Examination, and for the others a knowledge of elementary science will be an invaluable contribution to their general education. Twen- ty are being put through a com- plete Commercial Course in the Senior Lural Class.
The younger boys are prograss- Ing satisfactorily as the reports of the Inspector of English Schools testify, ||
The reports for 1925 0% St. Joseph's College and the bran- ch school at Kowloon and the 1st) Hongkong Troop (St. Joseph's Col- lege) of Boy Scouts were then read.
Two Speeches.
The Rev. Father Spada dis- tributed the diplomas to the successful students and gave an inspiring address full of sound advice to his youthful hearers.
Mr. E. A. Ralphs, Inspector of English Schools, congratulated the school on the good sense and loyalty shown during the recent trying circumstances. One heard brave talk about loyalty
