Henry Ford, a recent photo of whom appears above, recently expressed the opinion that airplanes will stop all warfare. "It will take time" he said, "but time will bring that situation about. The airplane has first of all got to justify itself by successful flights, day after day. One or a dozen trips from one point to another mean nothing. It must show consistent and continual mastering of the air and then it will, have a telling effect on war." The veteran automobile pioneer went on to say that war has heretofore heen localised, but future wars will not be confined to definite areas, but carried on in any part of the belligerents' territorios, "You can find the whole future of the aeroplane in Tennyson's "Locksley Hall" he concluded.

MODEL "P" TRIUMPH.

MODIFICATIONS IMPROVE WELL-KNOWN CYCLE.

No other, motor cycle has been favoured with greater popularity than the modal "P" Triumph, in- |troduced at the begluring of the 1923 season, and criticized from more than one quarter, but such criticisms we are afraid, in the majority of cases, have been ins-" pired, as it is generally conceded by, owners that it is one of the inest machines that has been turned but by the Triumph fac- tory, This in spite of its ex- tremely low price. Certain im- provements for 1926 have been effected, dictated by constant_ex" periments and road experience. These are of a minor nature, barely noticeable from a casual glanca, but in the aggregate they combine to make a better "mE- chine and better value than ever.

The most observable alteration

is the adoption of an internal ex- panding front wheel brake. This

is far more efficient than the old form of contracting band, and a short description will probably in- terest all Triumph riders:

Within the drum lies a continu- ous steel band faced with frie- tion material. One ond of the band is fixed to an anchor plate. whilst the other is expanded out. wardly by the brake operating lever.. When the brake is ap- plied the rotation of the wheel tends to expand the band harder against the drum, thus giving u powerful yet sweet brak- ing action,

The clutch also has been modi- fied. It remains of the multi- plate dry type, having floating Friction rings, but the control in- stead of being by means of two cam levers working in opposite directions, is now by a lever operating a push rod which passes through the centre of the main gear shaft, A steel ball between the push rod and lever takes the thrust. In order to prevent oil from the gear-box from reaching the plates, a special oil-retaining thimble has been added within the body of the clutch.

The engine remains as before, with the exception that valve guides are now fitted, and the front forka, backstays and stand have been strengthened.
