CHINESE DINNER AT WEST POINT.

The Tide of Fortune."

Last evening the Chinese friends of the Hon, A, G. M. Fletcher, C. M. G., C. B. E, entertained him at a farewell dinner at the Yeo Wo restaurant. The gathering was large and representative, about 150 people sitting down to dinner. The chair was occupied by the Hon. Sir Shou-aon Chow, who of- fered the guest of the evening all good wishes, bade hlm God speed in a charming speech, and presented him with a. hand some gold and jade necklace fur Mrs. Fietcher.

· A Staunch and Loyal Friend. Speaking personally for the Hon. Mr. Kotowall and myself we find him a staunch and loyal friend, and, a considerate colleague whose collaboration bas always been congenial; and whose advice, invaluable. Gentlemen, parting is a sad affair, but in this ease I refuse to regard it ay in any WAY permanent. Mr. Fletcher goes away to take the responsible duties recently laid down by our esteemed Governor, and it is with in the bounds of probability that he will one day come back to to assume the high office which Sir Ceell Clementi is filling to-day We are not, therefore, saying good-bye to Mr. and Mrs. Flet cher, but u revóle.
