STRIKE PARLEY.

DISAPPOINTING REPORT

BY DELEGATES.

There was a large attendance of Chinose merchants at the Chi- neso Chamber of Commoroo. rooms last evening, prasided over by Sir Shou-san Chow, at which] the report of the eight delegates recently went to Canton to dis- cuss the settlement of the strike and boycott was received.

Mr. Li Yau-tsun, the head of the delegation, gave an account of the various receptions and functions hold during the stay in, Canton, and made particular man- tion of the dinner given by the Strike Committoe at the Hotel Asia on New Year's Day. At this dinner, the dolégates were informed that the strike und boy- cott had hoon. Lorganised on patriotic grounds and were not aimed at the Chinese merchants of Hongkong. It was further added that in addition to demands: involving political issues, thore was tho question of re-instate-j ment of the strikers and also that of atriko pay, and the Strike Committee were of opinion that these mutters could not be nego- tiated by Hongkong Chinoso merchants.

Mr. M. K: Lo also reported on the visit, saying the strikers #understood the delegation to re- prosent only the Chinese and not the whole community or the European merchants of Hong- kong, and, that being so, they requested the delegates to return to Hongkong and ask that the four official delegates already appointed be sent to Canton to discuss the settlement.

Other speeches wore made, it; being stated that the strikers first desired discussion of
