COURT MARTIAL.
LOSS OF PYJAMAS.
A district Court Martial was held at Murray Barracks, this morning whén Private Frank Burns, 1st. Bn.. East Surrey Regt.. appeared to answer two charges.. Major W.P.A. Hattersley-Smith. D.S.O., Royal Artillery, presided over the Court, the other officers being Capt. G. Carpenter who appeared as prosecutor, and the de- fendant declined to be defended.
The first charge was of using Insabordinate language to a supe- rior offices, and the second losing, by neglect, equipment and kit.
After the defendant had pleaded guilty to both charges, Capt. Car- penter referred to the loss of two. pairs of pyjamas, mentioned in the details of the second charge, and said the defendant had not pre- viously admitted the loss of the pyjamas, as he had stated they were
nover Issued to him.
The President said that would make little difference, but in the case of the equipment he would have to pay. The defendant was entitled to draw two pairs of pyjamas, but that was a regimental matter.
Capt. Carpenter said he believed the defendant could produce evil- ence to show that the pyjamas had not been issued to him, and the President replied that he was en- titled to do so if he wished.
The defendant refused to make. any statement or to give evidence. No evidence was called, and the Court found the defendant guilty. Sentence will be promulgated in due
course.
