USED BY CADILLAC COY.

A new type of aluminum alloy casting for bearing caps, formerly used only in aviation engines, is now used by the Cadillac Motor Car Company on the three main bearing caps of its crankshaft.

uver,

The most observable alteration is the adoption of an internal ex- panding front wheel brake. This is far more efficient than the old form of contracting band, and a short description will probably in- terest all Triumph riders:

Within the drum lies a continu- ons spring steel band faced with friction material. One end of the band is fixed to an anchor plate, whilst the other is expanded out- wardly by, the brake operating lever. When the brake is applied the rotation of the wheels tend to expand the band even harder against the drum, thus giving a powerful yet sweet braking action.

The clutch also has been modi- tied, It remains of the multi-

Queer Machine,

"Elliot's machine was a queer little affair, made of a one-seated buggy, with small wheels. It was devoid of anything fancy like a top or rubber tires.

"As I recall it had two cylinders and a very troublesome, steering apparatus."

The fittest survive!

The fittest survive! Neither men nor machines, if they are unfit, çan long withstand the crushing strain of an exacting existence. Buick Valve-in-Head motor cars are built on principles that were established when the motor car industry started, and that these cars survived without change in their fundamentals is convincing proof that they are constructed on basic principles that are correct, In the making of Buicks there has been no yearly shifting from one set of engineering and manufacturing principles to an entirely different set. The Buick Valve-in Head principle was right in the beginning, and it has been right ever since. Each passing year finds this great principle more firmly and securely established in the estimation of the motoring public.

The Valve-In-Head principle is the great reason for the survival of Buick motor cars. If this principle had not been correct, Bulok, too, would have found it necessary to jump from one kind of engine to another in a ceaseless effort to find something that would stand the grilling work a motor car is called upon to do. The Buick has survived every test that more than a million and a quarter users could devise in the most exacting conditions of worldwide service. There could be no better proof that Bulek is the fittest among motor ears.
