MR. G. N. ORME LEAVES.

PROBABLY NOT RETURNING..

Among those who sailed for Home to-day by the Blue Funnel liner Patroclus, was Mr. G. N. Orme, the Director of Education, who is pro- ceeding on special Sick Leave. Mr. Orme, who has been in very in- *ifferent health for some time past, has been ordered Home by his medl cal adviser and, we learn, it is ex- tremely probable that he will be in- valided out of the Government ser vice whist Home, and not return to this Colony.

Mr Geoffrey Norman Orme has been in the Government service of Hongkong for 24 years, as it was! in November, 1901, that he was appointed a Cadet. Born in 1878, he obtained his B.A, degree at Ox-1 ford, and later in life was admitted a Barrister-at-Law of the Inner Temple, After his arrival in Hongkong, Mr. Orme studied Car- tonere at Canton for two years, and it was in April, 1904, that he receiv et dis arst appointment, that of Assistant Secretary to the Sanitary Board. From that time onwards Mr. Orme, like most of the Cadel afficers of the Government, has oc- cupied a variety of posts, among others being, in order of appoint- ment, Acting Assistant Registrar "General, Acting Second Police

Magistrate, Acting A.S.P. Police Magistrate of Now tories, Acting D.S.P.. Assistant Land Officer, of New Territories, Acting District Officer, Bend of the Sanitary Department, attached to Crown Solicitor's Office and later attached

to Attorney General's Offler, District Officer, Acting First Police Magistrate, Acting Director of Education: First Police Magis trate. Patate Duty Commissioner, Oficial Receiver and Registrar of Trade Marks, and, finally, Acting Director of Education in February, 1924. The confirmed appointment of | Director of Education came shortly. afterwards., last summer Mr. and Mrs. Orme went for a health trip to Java, and although Mr. Orme came back much better, he recently fell sick, with a return of malaria fever, and it is on urgent medical advice that he has left for Home.

There were 4 number friends to say "Good-bye" to Mr. and Mrs. Orme at Queen's Pier this morning, and Mr. Orme carries with him the west wishes of a wide elrele.
