This shaft, after running a short distance, disappears into a large cas- ing known as the Torque. Tube, the function of which is noted later. The rear: end of the Torque Tube is bolted to the rear axle cas- ing, which contains the "final drive." This may be E "worm" and "worm wheel," or it may be two bevel wheela, but in any case the worm wheel or the larger of the bevel wheels will contain the Differential. Gear.

(6) It is not proposed to des- cribe the Differential at this stage, but it consists, as all gear consist of a driving and driven members, the driving member being-the worm wheel in the case of a final drive of the worm type and the large bevel wheel (sometimes called the "erown wheel") in the case of a bevel drive and the driven members being gear wheels attached to the two shafts driving the road wheels. Lubrication as it is considered in mechanics is the application or introduction of a smooth fluid substance, preferably oil, between two hard moving surfaces that will keep them from coming in direct contact.

Unless the surfaces are kept apart by some -"medium the irregularities which exist on all surfaces, no matter how bard or smooth, will interlock, and the friction caused in tearing them apart and wearing them down will generate heat.

The action of a lubricant is to flow between the close-fitting surfaces, filling up the interstices and covering up the high spots, acting as a cushion and taking up whatever heat may be generated and carrying it off instead of allowing it to be absorbed by the wearing surfaces.

To do this properly, a lubricant should have certain properties," It should be of a fluid nature so that it will flow readily between surfaces that.. are close-fitting and under heavy pressure.

Gargoyle Mobiloil is, the very best motor car engine lubricant obtainable. It is manufactured by experts in the science of lubrication. The Correot grade as specified in the Chart of Recom mendation, will give more power to your engine on lower benzine consumption and at the same time reduce friction to the minimum, thus elimi- nating unnecessary repairs--nine times out of ten, due to the use of a poor quality of lubricating oil.
