Cald Ahmed Ben Abd-c-Szelem, of Kacem, who was a staunch French supporter and was awarded the Legion of Honour for valour, was killed in cleaning up operations in the Doakane zone. His loss is regarded as serious for this important section.

On the Stock Exchange Government securities weakened on, the announcement that the Treasury had authorised the Bank of England to receive tenders on, the 29th for a forty million sterling three 'and-a- half percent, conversion loan, at a minimum price of seventy six and a quarters per cent.-Renter.
INDIAN COTTON OPERATIVES' STRIKE.

The striking cotton operatives have received a cable purporting to come from the Soviet Textile Union of Moscow expressing fraternal solidarity and intimating that 10,000 roubles have been despatched to assist the movement.-Reuter.

·LOCAL ARRANGEMENTS FOR INTERNATIONAL EVENT.
Mr. Kirkman's Efforts.
Should the ambitions well-kilowa "long distance, walker. matorialise an. International race will shortly be contested in Hongkong. A race of this kind is an annual affair in Shanghai and this year it has stimulated more interest in the various communities than ever before.. The previous race was won by the Irish team, and Mr. F. Kirkman, who Is at present attached to the H.MS. Tamar com- peted as a 'representative for Eng- land.
Several organisations have been, upproached In Hongkong and Mr. Kirkman is trying to make arrange- ments for the race during the end of December, after the event at Shanghai which takes place 'in November or garly December. In. the North the distance in previous years was approximately 17 and a half miles, but this year the distance will be extended to 26 miles. Should Mr. Kirkman be successful In his efforts to promote such an event locally, the route will probably be round the Island, à distance of about 22 miles.
